EVERYTHING WELL

The story found in Mark 7:31-37 seems a bit odd at first, but shows us how incredibly compassionate Jesus was and is.

  1. Throughout Mark 7 we encounter Jesus saying and doing things that can seem odd, or even unkind, at first. When Jesus says something difficult, how do you respond? Do you press into the question and seek understanding, or do you avoid it and move on to something you are more comfortable with? His character is consistent and He is always trustworthy, so we should always seek to understand Him, even when it requires some work on our end.

    1. ‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.’ This is the Lord’s declaration.” – Isaiah 55:8, CSB

  2. Read back through Jesus’ interaction with the deaf man who had difficulty speaking. Do you relate in any way? Do you feel like this man, a Gentile or outsider, unfamiliar with the history of God’s people or promises? How does Jesus see “outsiders”? Can you believe Jesus came for you?

    1. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.” – Luke 19:10, CSB

  3. In a spiritual sense, we were all like this man, broken and incapable of rescuing ourselves. Jesus has provided us with full forgiveness and salvation through His death and resurrection. Yet we still have parts of us that are broken or not well. We long for the day when He returns and makes all things new! In what ways are you still broken and incapable of rescuing yourself? Are you, like the deaf man who had difficulty speaking, struggling to put words to what you need? See Jesus, the One able to heal you and give meaning to both your life and suffering.

    1. He who testifies about these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” – Revelation 22:20, CSB

Life Application:
The way of Jesus demonstrated in this healing is a great template for us to follow. First, engage any and everyone from a compassionate heart. Seek to understand their story and feel their pain. Then, engage in relevant ways. Be personal and genuinely helpful in meeting real needs around you. Finally, speak to redemptive longings fluently with the gospel – Jesus is the one who will ultimately make all things well for His beloved! Point to Him.

For Prayer:
As shared in the interview during yesterday’s gathering, pray for the Messer family as they prepare for Jameson’s upcoming surgery they will be traveling for.
